So, many of you know that I grew up in Texas, and that I am half Egyptian. So you would think that I would be able to tolerate the temperatures in Bakersfield. You would be WRONG! Ryan and I went down a few weeks agao, and while the heat wasn't unbearable, it did make me nervous for the heat yet to come this summer. But you don't care about that, you care about Jamie! Our Memorial Day weekend with Jamie was really fun. On Saturday we drove in and took Jamie out to dinner at CPK (her fave) and then just hung out. On Sunday, we got up and went to church (Jamie had to ride the bus, and we followed in our car). I think the most wonderful thing about the service (except God, of course) was to just visit with Jamie and comment on the sermon together. It felt so utterly normal. It was great. I have a bad habit of peeking at Jamie and just trying to watch her while she can't tell that I'm watching. When I would do this during the service, I would catch her singing (along with the rest of the congregation, of course) or reading her Bible! I asked her one time what she was reading, and she looked at me and said "oh, this is the word of God." Well right on.
After church we came home and Ryan grilled hamburgers for us at the pool, and then we braved the sunshine and cold water to get the first swim of the summer. We had a really fun time, and Jamie seemed to like the water. She was grumpy at a few points, but she was certainly content to pig out on pringles, a burger and some watermelon!
Some cool news - Jamie has been cleared to walk without any assisting devices at all times. No walker, cane, nothing, not even out in public. Also, she was previously required (by PT) to have someone at arm's length at all times. PT kept this restriction because of Jamie's balance issues. BUT J is now cleared from that, and the RAs just have to maintain a visual on her. This is great because it gives Jamie more independence, and we hope that this will also help with her mood towards the residential staff.
About that, we really need your prayers. Jamie really does not love the whole RA situation. Because of where she is at cognitively, she thinks she is more independent than what her therapists have signed off on. So the fact that she has 24 hour supervision is really annoying to her. She will be perfectly fine with us, but just won't have anything to do with the RA peeps. We are REALLY thankful that she is cool with her therapists at the clinic. She has a good attitude for her therapies, and we need your prayers that she keeps working at it. Sometimes she will have grumpy moods, but she always participates and does what she is asked.
I know that isn't much, but Morris life is wild and crazy right now. Please be praying for our stamina and all the hectic things going on with visiting Jamie and just regular ol' life.
love love love.

So glad to read you are getting to utterly normal family time. My thoughts continue to be with you all during Jamie's recovery.
Very good.
Thanks for the update. I have been wondering how Jamie is doing. I am so glad to hear of her continued improvement!
