TGIF

I knew God answered prayers.  I even knew that before Jamie's journey began.  However, as one dear friend said recently, I didn't know He answered them so quicklyWe have been praying lately for Jamie's appetite to improve and for her to be able to focus long enough to eat enough.  If she eats, she moves closer to getting the peg tube out, and closer to independence.  She has typically been eating between 20-35% of her meals, and we were anxious for her to start eating more and more. Yesterday she ate about 80% of breakfast and lunch (not sure about dinner) and this morning she ate quite a bit of her breakfast as well.  What a real and specific answer to prayer.

We have also been praying alot about the phase of recovery that Jamie is in.  As she is gaining awareness, it is easier for her to get frustrated and even a little down.  She is gaining awareness, and as she does so, it can become clearer what her limitations are.  PT has been especially frustrating for her, and we have been praying like crazy that she will have better PT sessions.  Well, today was amazing.  She made an entire loop of the hospital wing.  I am not good with distances, so I can't tell you how long that is, but trust me, it was really long.  She has also moved on from using the handrail in the hallway and the therapists just help her with her balance. She has also used a walker and a cane on different occasions, which are just more steps towards independence!  She was also able to work on some strength exercises after walking.  I think this is great - she is generally pooped after walking, so its a great sign that she had enough energy after walking to do some more work! She had a longer rest today between therapies, so we think that may be a contributing factor to her good experience in PT. Rather, that's how God helped her do better :)

We can also see a significant improvement in Jamie's awareness.  She responds when people walk in the room, even before they say anything.  She is also responding more quickly in general.  Remember my plane analogy? Well, it seems like the connections between the air plane routes are becoming fewer and more efficient! I just see a quickness in her that I can't explain, that hasn't been there since the accident.  I love seeing it!

We are encouraged and uplifted by all these improvements.  But most of all, its God's faithfulness and grace that are keeping us, and Jamie, afloat.  Keep on praying!
